The first food booth our council had back in 1981. Robert Toplikar is manning the counter.
It was an old unused shed that had hinged, fold-up sides on it. It belonged to a neigbor of
the Toplikar's and they were permitted to borrow it for Old Settlers if they agreed to paint it
and return it. It took at least 10 Knights to lift it on to a trailer. The Toplikar's fought
off ants with lots of bug spray and put tons of paint to get the thing looking bright and white-
only to have to lift it again to return it. They built the light weight hinge-pin stand after
that one. Robert Toplikar had coined the name "Old World Sausage" (to compete with the Grange Pup)
which he got from House of Sausage on Strawberry Hill in KCK where he had known the owners,
Chrisman and Grishnic, for years. He talked them into making quarter sized sausages especially for them
since they were buying so much for Old Settlers. He always insisted that each one be cut in half longways
and served between two slices of bread and wrapped in wax paper. The Knights were the third group to sell food
at the Old Settlers. It was a great fund raiser from the beginning.
